Honor is looking in the mirror and knowing what you see is honorable and not from a narcissistic perspective.  Courage is standing on my own two feet and marching to my own drummer and or the big Drummer in the sky when everyone else wants me to march to a popular political beat.  Commitment is choosing to be here or there for you and for You in ways that are lifegiving.

These are the core values of the United States Navy. As a Navy vet, they mean everything to me.
Honor means to be a person of integrity, to always do what you say you will do, to treat others with respect at all times, to always hold yourself accountable for all of your words and actions.
Courage means to a person that does what needs to be done regardless of cost or naysayers opinions, to fight for those who can't fight, to stand up to and against those that accept substandard performance or complacency.
Commitment means to never give up, to never let anyone get in your way, to be tenacious, and most of all, it means always living up to your responsibilities.
To me, these core values are what make decent American citizens and patriots. To be without any one or combination of these values is to not be worthy of be calling "American", but that is just my opinion.

Honor, Courage, and Commitment are what the Marine Corps taught me in boot camp.  I have linked it all to how I live my life, what to teach my children, and also link all of it to the one thing I try to live my whole life by:  Integrity.

I believe its harder to be honest than to tell lies; and it takes courage to do things in life we know are right, such as always tell the truth, and easier to do what is wrong.  It takes courage to live your life for you and for what is important to you despite what others believe.  It takes courage to stand up for yourself, an innocent person, your children etc.

Commitment is in everything we do if we want a happy and successful existence.  The commitment I have made to my Autistic son to change my entire way of life because it benefited him.  The commitment to honor my son's issues with me dating too soon and bringing another stepparent into the picture.  Commitment to be a single mom, and a good one, despite being lonely or getting overwhelmed and committed go always pushing to being a better mom along the way so my children have one person they can always count on.  Committed to my morals, my values, and those I will consider family.  You earn that sort of commitment from someone.

I hold honor in upholding my values in what the corps taught me and never to lose my integrity

That is what the people responsible for 9/11 felt that they had. They felt that they were honoring their religion. They had the courage to sacrifice their own lives. They had the commitment to actually do it.
